Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is the original and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and is widely recognized as one of the top hospitals in the nation. Founded in 1811, it is the third oldest hospital in the United States and holds 1,000 beds.
MGH conducts the largest hospital-based research program in the world. Its rich history of medical breakthroughs includes the first widely documented use of ether for surgical anesthesia, the world’s first successfully replanted severed limb, and numerous surgical and technological innovations that have resulted from their research. Current innovations are focused on finding ways to make healthcare more affordable, improve outcomes, and expand the training of the next generation.
Partnering with the Lynch Foundation
The Lynch family and the Lynch Foundation have more than a 30-year relationship with MGH. After supporting the hospital’s research with annual gifts since 1986, the relationship was enhanced when Dr. Thomas Burke introduced Carolyn and Peter to the Maternal/Infant Health Initiative in Africa in 2007. This project became the first major grant from the Foundation to MGH.
The Foundation has continued to support pilot projects that include providing integrated resources for parents with cancer that connect logistical, medical, emotional, and social services for families with children that have chronic and terminal illnesses.
