The Phoenix
Since its inception, The Phoenix has served over 500,000 individuals nationwide
with 83% of new members maintaining sobriety after three months—
a stark contrast to the 40–60% relapse rates typically seen in other programs
The Boston chapter alone has engaged over 1,200 members,
offering free programs to individuals with at least 48 hours of sobriety
After experiencing the transformative power of physical activity and social connection through his own recovery journey, Scott Strode launched The Phoenix in 2007 in Colorado. The Phoenix hopes to help individuals experience that same transformative power to aid in achieving and maintaining sobriety.
The Trustees at The Lynch Foundation first learned about Scott’s work at a national forum for philanthropists in 2009. We felt a close kinship with the mission of The Phoenix because of our shared goals in empowerment and community support.
We remained in contact with hopes for an opportunity to work together someday.
Since Partnering with The Lynch Foundation
So, in 2014 when Scott made the decision to expand to a third state, The Lynch Foundation provided seed funding to help him launch a Boston Chapter.
Initially operating in temporary space, The Phoenix offered 16 weekly events to over 550 individuals for the first two years. As demand grew, the need for permanent & consistent programming became necessary. This led to the purchase of an 11,000 sq. ft. warehouse at 54 Newmarket Square in August 2017. The Lynch Foundation provided a critical matching challenge grant to raise $1.5 million in 40 days to close on the building.
This organization provides individuals who are struggling with key support to help them succeed. The Phoenix also provides a physical location where individuals can go to feel empowered to fight through their addiction.
The Phoenix has since expanded its reach to 8 regional sites across New England and 36 states across the country. The Lynch Foundation continues to support The Phoenix and its mission to expand online and across the nation.
