KIPP Academy Lynn is part of the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP): a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools. KIPP schools have a track record of preparing students in under-served communities for success in college and in life.
Eager to bring the opportunity of KIPP to the North Shore, where he grew up, Josh Zoia returned to his home state after participating in the KIPP residency program to open KIPP Academy Lynn. He walked the streets to recruit students, visiting the Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, Girls, Inc., churches, and other community gathering spots to talk with families and share this educational opportunity for their children. KIPP Academy Lynn opened its doors to the first class of 77 fifth graders in September 2005.
Since Partnering with The Lynch Foundation
KIPP lasers focus on academic readiness, extended time, character development, college knowledge and match, teacher coaching and continual learning.
Impressed by Zoia’s leadership, the school’s results, and its positive impact on the Lynn community, the Trustees jumped on the opportunity in 2010 to support KIPP’s expansion to open a high school to double the number of students served.
KIPP Academy Massachusetts now educates over 2,100 students in 5 schools in Lynn and Boston and their alumni are graduating from college at 5x the rate of the national average. The Lynch Foundation has continued its partnership with KIPP, supporting their growth to reach full capacity at both their Lynn and Boston campuses.
