Boys and Girls Club of Boston
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Boston serve over 45,000 community members each year
through eight Clubs and programs across 22 communities in Boston and Chelsea
Annually, BGCB provides 200,000 healthy meals and snacks, and supports a 99% graduation rate among high school seniors
Since opening its first local club in 1893, Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) has helped children reach their full potential through programs in technology, art, math, life skills, and physical fitness. By providing a safe space and affordable after school programming in Boston and Chelsea, BGCB fosters social connections, stability, and teamwork to build the next generation of civic leaders. In the last decade, BGCB’s focus has shifted away from building confidence through sports – although physical fitness remains a cornerstone – and towards an emphasis on academic support and literacy.
Since Partnering with The Lynch Foundation
The Lynch Foundation has long nurtured a strong connection with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston. Carolyn Lynch joined the Board in 1993 and served as a Trustee for over a decade, and the Foundation has supported the organization since 1995.
In 2001, the Chelsea Club found themselves amidst an $11 million campaign to convert its makeshift Chelsea Clubhouse in the Innes Housing Development into a full-scale facility that could support the needs and aspirations of the young men and women in the community. As the Club neared its fundraising goal, the Lynch Foundation teamed up with BGCB issuing a $3:$1 matching grant to create momentum to propel them across the finish line to successfully complete the capital campaign.
Campaign Accomplishments:
Construction of the new state of the art Gerald and Darlene Jordan Club
Growing from 1,500 square feet of programming space to 4,200 square feet
Serving 5 times as many children
Fitness center, pool, art room, performing arts studio, climbing wall, music studio, technology and education rooms
The Foundation has continued to partner with BGCB by providing annual and programmatic support. To learn more about BGCB visit their website.
