Phoenix

A Lynch Foundation Ten Bagger

The Lynch Foundation provided the seed funding that enabled The Phoenix to launch its Boston chapter. In 2017, the Foundation further supported the organization with a challenge grant to help secure a permanent home and catalyze additional philanthropic investment. The Phoenix successfully matched the grant and purchased its current 11,000-square-foot facility in Newmarket Square. Since then, the Lynch Foundation has continued to invest in Phoenix’s growth across Massachusetts, where the organization has now reached more than one million participants nationwide.

The Lynch Foundation has been supporting Phoenix since 2014

The Lynch Foundation has a long track record of investing in exceptional leaders, and Scott Strode is one of those leaders. The Foundation was introduced to Scott before The Phoenix was ready to expand to Boston and immediately recognized his passion, commitment, and tenacity.

When Phoenix began laying the groundwork for a Boston presence, it started by building community and offering early programming before securing a permanent home. The Lynch Foundation provided its first local grant during this formative period to help accelerate the organization’s expansion and establish a strong foundation in Boston.

The Phoenix community expanded rapidly, underscoring the clear need for its recovery-centered programming. What began with a small group of participants quickly grew to 550 local members. Today, the 11,000-square-foot Newmarket Square facility is the most impactful of Phoenix’s four brick-and-mortar locations nationwide, with the highest membership growth and attendance rates, the strongest partnership network, and serving as a hub for critical research advancement.

Phoenix now serves more than 35,000 members across Massachusetts, offering over 160 in-person and virtual events each week throughout the state. Nationally, the organization reached a milestone of one million people served by the end of 2025. Recognizing the profound impact on individuals, families, and communities, Phoenix has set an ambitious goal of reaching 10 million people by 2030.
