The Pine Street Inn is the largest homeless shelter in New England.
Not only does the Pine Street Inn provide individuals experiencing homelessness with a communal space to gather and find shelter, they’re also dedicated to providing essential and critical services to these individuals as well.
Their mission to end homelessness can be visualized in their huge number of services offered. This is an essential resource for local homeless populations.
Partnering with The Lynch Foundation
Accessible resources & education for vulnerable populations are core principles of The Lynch Foundation. It’s easy to see these same values reflected in the services and mission of the Pine Street Inn, which is what drew us to the organization in the first place.
In 1993, The Lynch Foundation approved an innovative pilot grant to Pine Street Inn.
The grant was to support the development of specialized transitional programs. These programs provide dedicated case management and counseling staff to support individuals as they move from emergency shelters into permanent homes.
Today, Pine Street Inn owns or manages more than 440 permanent supportive housing locations for close to 900 men and women in Greater Boston.
Our contribution to Pine Street Inn helped to push the initiative forward. This partnership created a permanent solution for homeless individuals instead of solely temporary ones.
This grant allowed Pine Street Inn to then allocate other resources and local donations to other initiatives within the organization. These include their recovery services, their workforce development, and more.
In 2020, the Foundation made another critical investment in Pine Street Inn’s 50th Anniversary capital campaign to increase, preserve, and sustain solutions to homelessness. The grant helped the organization set up a new transitional shelter that would transition all 180 guests into housing within a year.
